TOPPENISH–Pirate ball carriers and pass receivers tallied big numbers in a convincing win over the Yakama Nation Tribal School Eagles here last week as the Bucs scored prolifically for a 62-6 win.

Pomeroy is now 1-2 in league play, 1-3 overall. The Pirates host the Touchet Indians Friday at Lybecker Field, kickoff at 7 p.m.

The defense showed their stuff as well, holding the Eagles to just two rushing yards and 163 yards of total offense, and making a trio of picks and recovering four Yakama fumbles.

Trent Gwinn scored five touchdowns, two on the ground, two by air and on via punt return. He garnered 107 yards rushing on five carries and added 127 yards receiving. Gwinn's punt return touchdown covered 70 yards.

Pirate quarterback Brandon Bales was 6-13 (46%) for 141 yards and three touchdowns via the pass. Bales was also a running threat to the Eagle defense, carrying 13 times for 125 yards.

Click, click, click, the Pirates scored three touchdowns in the first quarter to jump to a 24-0 lead.

Four minutes into the game, Bales connected with Gwinn for a 19-yard scoring strike, then Bales ran in the extra point.

After stopping Yakama in three downs, the Eagles punted, with Gwinn fielding the ball at the 30 and returning the punt 70 yards to the end zone. Devin Noffsinger punched in the two-point conversion.

On Pomeroy's next possession, Gwinn broke loose for a 41-yard scoring ramble with 3:22 remaining in the quarter. Bales ran the PAT for two, 24-0.

Yakama used up the remainder of the first quarter and punted, and the Pirates moved downfield with Noffsinger running the touchdown in from the seven. The Bales to Noffsinger PAT pass was good, 32-0.

The Eagles managed their sole score in the second quarter, Andy Bennett hitting Steve Bueno for a 23-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion pass was incomplete.

Pomeroy again moved the ball and got into the red zone where Bales handed off to Noffsinger for six. Noffsinger also punched in the PAT, 40-6 with 7:56 on the clock.

The Pirates didn't wait long. They got the ball back and the handoff to Gwinn at midfield resulted in a touchdown. Gwinn's extra point run made it 48-6 at half.

In the third quarter, Bales to Gwinn for 77 yards was the only scoring in that period, and it was the same combo in the final stanza from the 19. Noffsinger made the PAT in the third-quarter and the last touchdown PAT was no good.

The Pirates amassed 433 yards of offense, making 141 in the air and 292 rushing. The Bucs garnered 19 first downs to Yakama's nine.

The Eagles battled penalties with eight for 50 yards; Pomeroy had four penalties for 26 yards.

Yakama fumbled four times, losing four and Pomeroy coughed it up three times, losing two.
