POMEROY–My connection to Pomeroy began when I was about 12 years old when a part of my family moved here and we came to visit. I eventually married a local girl, Janie Bartlow. I graduated from WSU with a pharmacy degree in 1972 and we moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where I did a one-year hospital pharmacy residency. I worked as a hospital pharmacist for the next four years in Wenatchee and Seattle.
After living in three large cities, I became convinced that I wanted to raise my family in a small town. In 1977 I accepted the position of administrator for Garfield County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, and our family of three moved home. We have never been sorry.
In 1979 I realized a long-time dream to own my own business and purchased Brown’s Drug Store from Denzil Bartels. We were there for nearly ten years when we decided to partner and share resources with Brad and Lisa Gingerich. We expanded Pomeroy Pharmacy where we were partners for 27 years. We believed and still do, that it was a wise move for our families and for our community.
I have been active at various times in Kiwanis (when it was still in existence), Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce, SEWEDA advisory committee, and I have served on the hospital board for several years at times in the past.
In the spring of 2015, I retired and sold my half of the business to my partner. Retirement has been good. Janie keeps me busy around the house, I serve on the board at my church and drag the Cup of Hope coffee trailer wherever I’m told. I’m on the CTE advisory board for Pomeroy Jr-Sr High School and part of the chain gang for the varsity football games. I enjoy doing all of those things because being part of this community is very important to me. We take care of each other here.
In January of 2017, the emergency health care services took care of me. It is an event I have no memory of, but my family entrusted me into their hands, and we are grateful for the excellent care I received.
I am running for a position on the hospital board because I believe in and am committed to this community. I have served in health care services all of my professional life, and I believe that I have experience that can benefit our hospital district.
