POMEROY–Ian A. McWilliams pleaded guilty to felony Vehicular Homicide and Vehicular Assault for the September 30, 2017, fatal collision on Highway 12 near milepost 421 and was sentenced during a hearing in front of Judge Tom Cox on October 16, 2019.

McWilliams was sentenced to two months in county jail, nine months electronic home detention, 240 hours of community service, 12-months community custody and a fine of $44,541.45 for court costs and restitution. In addition, his driving privileges will be revoked for a minimum period of two years.

The incident occurred while McWilliams was traveling westbound on Highway 12 near milepost 421 between Clarkston and Pomeroy, when his vehicle crossed the centerline striking two of three motorcycles traveling in the opposite direction. The collision immediately killed John F. Seger and seriously injured Heidi Wilson-Seger, both of Medical Lake Wash.

At sentencing, the Seger family conveyed to the court the character of John Seger, and the tremendous loss that his family feels. The family also wished the Court and McWilliams to know that they were not vindictive, rather forgiving. However, the Seger family requested that McWilliams earn at least some form of punishment for his actions although it need not include prison time.

McWilliams had supporters at the sentencing as well. McWilliams spoke to the court and victims’ family, where he accepted responsibility for his actions and apologized for the pain, he has caused due to the collision. Judge Tom Cox then pronounced sentence.
