A Teen's Take

December 5, 2019

POMEROY–The summer before I went into third grade, my parents got a divorce. I thought my world was over. I cried all the time. Honestly, my little brother was there for me the most and he was only like six. I remember that a couple of other kids in my class parents were going through divorce right around the same time. We talked a lot about the pros and cons. Like having two Christmases and two birthdays. It is both a pro and a con. The best thing is being able to share these special times of year with the people you love at the same time, but divorce complicates things and prevents that from happening.

If I were to go back and had the opportunity to change it though, I wouldn’t. Now that I am older, I see that my parents were unhappy. But it was tough for a while. The whole situation made me grow up faster and made me the person I am today. I am more realistic about life, have stronger convictions and value family which I’m so thankful.

Divorce is not that uncommon these days, making it hard for kids and super sad for families. Even though I wish it could be different, I know sometimes it is for the best.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving and enjoyed all of the food!
