Firefighters in the region–including units from Garfield County Fire District No. 1–escorted a brother firefighter, Ashton K. Farley, from his service district in Walla Walla County to his hometown of Troy, Id., Friday, December 6. The procession escorted Farley through Garfield County, who died in a motor-vehicle accident on November 21, to Troy prior to services planned in Moscow, Id., the following day.

POMEROY–Firefighters and law enforcement personnel escorted the body of Ashton K. Farley, a Walla Walla volunteer firefighter, through Garfield County as he was transported from Prescott, Wash., to Moscow, Idaho Friday morning, December 6, 2019.

The motorcade began at the Prescott Fire Station, leaving there at 7:30 a.m., and proceeded through Walla Walla County, Waitsburg, onto Columbia County, Dayton, then into Garfield County. The Sheriff's Department and Garfield County Fire District No.1 joined in and came through Pomeroy at about 8:30 a.m. The procession continued east through Clarkston and Lewiston, and on to Troy, Idaho, Farley's home town, ending in Moscow, Idaho, where the funeral services were to be held.

Farley was 23 years old and a volunteer firefighter for Walla Walla County Fire Districts 1, 3 and 7. According to the Walla Walla County Undersheriff, Joe Klundt, he was travelling from Prescott, driving a 1997 GMC Sierra pick-up truck. An unidentified citizen reported to 911 services early in the morning, Thursday, December 5, that a vehicle was in the ditch just southwest of Prescott. When the Walla Walla County Sheriff's office investigated, they found Farley near the pick-up, unconscious. Life Flight was called in, but Farley died before they reached the scene. Farley was not wearing a seat belt.

Further investigation is ongoing by the Washington State Police, as well as blood toxicology results and an autopsy.
