OAKESDALE–In a classic battle, the Pomeroy Lady Pirates played well in the end game to hold off a Lady Nighthawk run and notch another league win prior to breaking for Christmas holidays.

The Pirates head to a holiday tournament against Davenport on Friday, December 27 at the "Eagle Classic" at West Valley H.S., Spokane Valley. They are now 6-0 overall, 4-0 in Southeast B play.

The Lady Buccaneers battled to an 11-6 lead after the first quarter and survived a Lady Nighthawk rally in the second quarter but preserved a 20-19 lead at the break.

Oakesdale evened it up by outscoring Pomeroy 7-6 in the third quarter to start the fourth stanza tied 26-26, but the Lady Pirates nudged ahead and held on through the home stretch to win 43-40. Pomeroy was able to survive Keely Maves being in foul trouble and some turnovers, holding on to a four- or six-point lead through the final three minutes of the game.

Heidi Heytvelt scored 15 to lead the Lady Bucs, with Maddy Dixon putting in 12 and Maves scoring 10 to lead the team scorers. Lizzy Perry scored 11 for the Lady Nighthawks.
