SPOKANE VALLEY–Razor sharp and tight as a fiddle string, the Lady Pirates’ five-point win over the 2B Davenport Lady Gorillas, 2018-19 fifth-place finishers at state, was “a really good team win,” according to Head Coach Tai Bye.

Pomeroy and Davenport ended the first and second quarters tied before the Lady Bucs squeaked ahead by one point at the end of the third and outscored the Lady Gorillas 13-9 in the final stanza for the 44-39 win in the Eagle Classic Tourney December 27.

“We had strong passes, moved the ball well, and finished well from the key,” Bye commented. “This was a really good win for us going into the second part of the season.

“I was also very pleased with our defensive effort,” Bye said. “The girls rotated well and played strong help-side defense.”

Maddy Dixon was in foul trouble early but played a tough second half, finishing with 19 points, 9 boards, 3 assists, and 4 blocks.

Sydney Watko had a standout game today, finishing with 10 points, 8 boards, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.
