Pirate Braedyn White took third in the 170 lb. class and is headed to state with two other Pomeroy teammates, Will Winona and Curtis Winona.

REARDAN–Two Pomeroy wrestlers qualified for the State Wrestling Meet in Tacoma next weekend, finishing the 1B/2B Region 3 Tournament here in third and fourth places, plus a third Pirate is state-bound as an alternate.

Braedyn White, 170 lb., and Will Winona, 182 lb., finished third and fourth, respectively, to qualify, and Curtis Winona, 160 lb., was fifth and is an alternate. Dayton-Waitsburg's Carlos Norris qualified at the 1B/2B Region 2 in Oroville.

These three guys battled their guts out in the quest for a state berth," said Coach Ben Slaybaugh. "White looked solid and his third-place finish will have him positioned well. Will showed a lot of grit in his two matches and hopes to keep that momentum going for next week."

White won against W. Corrigan of WCK, was pinned by K. Krause of Chewelah, then finished with a decision over V. Merrill of Davenport and technical fall, 17-1, over S. Rasmussen of Selkirk.

Will Winona was pinned by S. Schneider of Davenport and S. Nelson of Liberty, finishing fourth

Eighth grader Curtis Winona lost by fall to C. Piepgras of Chewelah, lost by 3-7 decision to S. Henry of Davenport and won a 9-4 decision over M. Lencioni of Liberty.
