A Teen's Take

March 26, 2020

POMEROY–I think, with everything going on in the world right now, one of the most interesting things I’ve seen is how people act during this time. Some people try to stick together while others fall apart. Most of what I witness though is people helping others when they can.

Right now, it is important for people to extend a helping hand, especially toward those who are unable to or should not leave their home.

I was in Costco recently and a lady, who was ahead of us in line, was buying groceries for her aunt who was self-isolating. It was a kind gesture which provided safety for that person.

On the other hand, many people have mixed feelings, some are anxious while others are sad or frustrated. It is hard not to do normal everyday things. We now have to focus on how close we are to another person and need to wash your hands every twenty minutes. Going outside is fine, but visiting your friends in a confined area is not a good idea. Thank goodness for texting.

How I cope with this pandemic is to look at the simple ways people show kindness and keep it positive. I understand that this sounds a little bit ridiculous based on the level of uncertainty right now, but it’s the best thing for us to do.

Please remember the emergency and healthcare providers, the fire fighters and store clerks. They appreciate those little kindnesses, even if it is only a smile. We will get through this.

I hope everyone is staying positive and remembering to smile.
