A Teen's Take

April 23, 2020

POMEROY–Some people say being a teen is not very great, but I don’t agree. I think these years are going to be some of the best of our lives.

Yes, there are difficulties and currently I’m struggling with a career path. I’ve been told I still have lots of time to figure it out, but I’m someone who likes to have at least an idea what I’m going to do.

Some of my peers say they have known exactly what they wanted to do since they were little kids. I think that is wonderful. But I find it hard, especially because the two paths I am considering are very different careers. How do you make a decision based off of what will be important to you in 20 years? I don’t know, it’s hard to consider all of the factors when everyone is telling you the negatives of the job.

I enjoy feedback and opinions, but when they’re coming from my brother who says such things as “KayLee, you realize you wouldn’t make that much money and then you would have to live with me, right?”

Deciding on a career takes time and thought and answers to many questions. Do I head into a job for the money or for the love of it? What type of schooling will it require? Will there be a demand for it in the future? Will I be able to meet the demands of the job? I just don’t know what I will want.

I hope everyone is staying home, staying safe, staying well, enjoying the warm weather and blossoming flowers.
