A Teen's Take

July 9, 2020

POMEROY–As a teen looking at and listening to all of the media outlets, I worry about our country and the people in it. I am not a political person and quite frankly, I don’t understand why we argue over politics. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and I shouldn’t be seen any differently because I like our president and love our country even more.

I cannot say that I agree with certain things some people are saying, but I can state my opinion or objection to a particular situation and expect the same courtesy I extended, in return. I definitely do not agree with the individuals who are tearing down our monuments and burning our flag. If you think that--that is okay because that is your constitutional right to express your opinion, but that doesn’t mean I will agree with you. See, I have been raised to stand for the flag in respect to those who fought for our country’s freedoms and I only kneel for the Lord.

Just as I can’t tell you what to do or how to think, the same goes for others or should be anyway. It is called common courtesy and mutual respect for differing opinions. I have people very close to me who don’t agree with what I think and that is ok.

A case-in-point, I wore my Trump socks for the Fourth of July. Did I get ridiculed? Absolutely. Did it bother me? Not one bit. I exercised my rights provided to me through this country’s Constitution and thank God everyday for those who I honor by celebrating our Independence and supporting our current leader in the manner I did.

I am grateful everyone thinks differently because if you, your neighbor, the mailman or someone else you know thought the exact same things, new ideas would never be expressed to consider and wouldn’t that make the world a completely boring place?

I hope everyone had an amazing Fourth of July and saw some amazing fireworks!
