A Teen's Take

POMEROY–When the COVID-19 pandemic originally broke out, my friends and I thought that it would just run its course and we’d be on our way. Man, were we wrong!

Now that it has entered our county, it’s becoming more real. I mean it was scary to see that this virus was killing young healthy people, but now that it is in our community, it is more apparent.

I remember when this all started and one of my friends was joking around saying something along the lines of “What COVID–19 came to Pomeroy? Our little itty-bitty town in the corner of Washington State infected with a world-wide pandemic. Wouldn’t that be weird?” Another of my friends chimed in about that never happening.

For a while it seemed like they were right until I receive a notification it hit right here at home. What seemed incomprehensible shook us all awake! Will we need to take extra precautions or will we just do what we are doing.

Originally, it was hard to stay six feet away from your best friend when you’ve known them your whole life, but it is making sense now. It is even more important to be careful of our grandparents and make sure to keep a greater distance than before. Boy, I never thought I wouldn’t be able to hug my grandma every time I see her.

Now that COVID-19 has come to Pomeroy, it is all our responsibility to take care of each other by following the guidelines of distancing and wearing masks.

I hope everyone is having a great week while being mindful of their actions.
