Garfield County voters choose Nelson and Mulrony for Commissioner; Burns and Marinella for Sup. Court Judge

POMEROY–In the Primary Election held on August 4 here, three local races were determined as to who will have placement on the November ballot.

Advancing to the 2020 General Election on the Garfield County ballot for District 1 County Commissioner Pos. 1 will be Jim Nelson (R) and Vonni (Vonda) Mulrony (R). The primary set the stage for the Asotin, Columbia and Garfield Superior Court Judge candidates Brooke Burns and G. Scott Marinella to be decided in November.

The only candidates for County Commissioner Pos. 2, Larry Ledgerwood and Wynne McCabe, move on to the General Election. Voters favored Ledgerwood with 285 and 69.34% to incumbent Wynne McCabe's 123 votes and 29.93%. Both candidates indicate no preference to a political party.

The three-way race for Commissioner District 1 showed Nelson leading with 198 votes and 59.1% with Mulrony receiving 80 votes and 23.88% from District 1 voters. P. Ernest Kimble (R) received 56 votes and 16.72%.


Superior Court Judge Candidate Marinella garnered 522 votes and 52.57%. Burns received 402 votes and 40.48%, and R. Victor Bottomly got 66 votes, 6.65%.

County voters chose District 9 State Senator Mark G. Schoesler (GOP) with 790 votes (79.4%) and Democrat Jenn Goulet with 197 and 19.8%. District 9 State Representative Pos. 1 Mary Dye (R) received 883 votes and 87.17%, and Brett Borden (Libertarian) 123 and 12.14%. District 9 State Representative Pos. 2 Joe Schmick (R) is running unopposed and received 844 votes in Garfield County and 27,620 across the district.

Across District 9, Schoesler received 24,709 votes to Goulet's 11,891. Dye got 26,938 to Borden's 7,361.

Local voters continued support for Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R) (762-73.55%) as Fifth District U. S. Representative. The District voted for Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R) (95,019–51.88%) and Dave Wilson (D) (45,210–24.69%).

In the statewide race, local voters preferred Raul Garcia (R) (285–27.64%) and Loren Culp (R) (262–25.41%) for the governor's race. But voters across the state voted to have Inslee (D) face-off with Culp (R) in November.

The Primary Election voter turnout for the Tri-County area for Garfield County registered voters 1,614 of which 1,072 (66.42%) voted; Asotin County registered voters 14.103 and only 7,092 (50.29%) voted, and Columbia County registered voters 2,712 with 1,451 (53.5%) voted.
