A Spokane hunter lost his station wagon over a steep bank on the Rice Bar Hill road and a bird dog reportedly rode it to the bottom. The car apparently slipped out of gear, went through a fence and then over a steep vertical embankment of 100 feet or more. It is reported the caged dog was not injured but the 1967 Ford wagon appeared to be a total loss.

Five 4-H club members from Garfield County made an outstanding record at the Pacific International Livestock show held in Portland last week. Bobby McGreevy walked away with the champion Hereford steer. Kenneth Price placed with three of his Shorthorn steers, as did a steer of Elbert Morgan. Beverly Mast won the first prize crossbred barrow and reserve champion pen of four in the pig feeding contest; Price placed second in the latter. Teddy Greene placed fifth in the Hampshire fat wether class.

Last Sunday Lee Keatts, Chet Obenland and Frank Hall decided to go deer hunting. They spotted a buck in a stubble field about six miles northeast of the city and gave chase, but when they got within rifle range they discovered they had brought their bird guns instead of deer rifles. As the deer was headed in the direction of Dewey Brown’s place they executed a circular movement around Dewey’s house for the dual purpose of surrounding the quarry and obtaining a rifle. Their arrival brought immediate results as both Lawrence and Elton Brown had deer guns. All jumped into the pickup and within a few minutes located the fine, three-point whitetail buck.

Since Halloween night falls on Saturday, the annual “spook evening” at Pomeroy High School will be staged this year on Friday. The affair is in the hands of the juniors and it is rumored they will have a feature which will more than equal the junior jazzville of last year. Although nothing definite has been heard from the seniors, it is understood that they also will have a corner to themselves.

Arrangements for the Armistice Day football game with Milton have been completed. This fills out Pomeroy’s schedule of four games which includes Lewiston, Clarkston and Waitsburg.

Quite a number of our citizens availed themselves of the opportunity afforded them by the railroad company of attending the Portland exposition at the reduced price of $7.60 for round trip tickets.

Postmaster Tyrrell has received letters and letters, but none, perhaps, more difficult to understand than the following which is published exactly as it was written with the exception that the name is omitted: Pullman Oct 2, 1895—Sir Will you plese send my male and daughters here.

The 6-year-old son of Wm. Shunkwiler attended the hanging “bee” in this city and then went home and strung up his little brother. He tied a cord around the youngster’s neck and swung him to the gate post being careful to get his feet clear from the ground. He wasn’t “onto” his job, however, for the knot didn’t slip, which was a good thing, for, otherwise the victim might have been pretty badly choked when his mother came to the rescue.
