A Teen's Take

We could all use a vacation

January 14, 2021

POMEROY–What a rollercoaster ride 2020 was, with its twists and turns and, for a while there, you may have felt a little queasy. However, once you step off, you look back and realize that it could have been worse, but if you’re anything like me, you’re glad the ride is over. Or is it?

When I take a glance over all of the things that happened and that I did in the last year, I feel a mixture of emotions. It started out with the fires at the beginning of the year. Then it abruptly went into the pandemic and quarantine, having to distance socially from my friends and extended family, having school on-line instead of in-person, which created frustration and confusion, not being able to enjoy sports or other community activities. The hardest part of it all is the losses and sadness our country and world experienced.

There are plenty of joyful feelings too as well. I see that we got to spent more quality time with our immediate family, having meals together, learning new ways to communicate using technology and how to use our imaginations to have fun in an otherwise boring situation. I see all of the things we have overcome, the new experiences I have gained, as well as a plethora of memories.

This last year was definitely a year I don’t think anyone will forget, no matter how hard they try. I just hope people are able to reflect on how some good happened during this difficult time, even if it is just a sliver. With that said, I do hope for a better 2021 because I think we could all use a vacation from our last year.

I hope everyone had an amazing week while keeping up on your New Year’s Resolutions!
