POMEROY––The Lady Pirates clobbered two home runs in the nightcap to split a doubleheader against Garfield-Palouse here April 13. The Lady Vikings outlasted Pomeroy 17-12 in the opener but Pirate bats came alive to hammer Gar-Pal in the second game 17-5.

The Pirates played DeSales April 17 and at Colton on April 20 (results to appear next week). On Saturday, April 24, Pomeroy hosts Touchet for a doubleheader and closes the season May 1 at home against Tekoa-Rosalia.

Elizabeth Ruchert pounded a homer and totaled three hits, and Natalie Bryson also whapped a home run. "Elizabeth Ruchert did amazing at hitting the ball in the second game, including her first Home Run!" said Head Coach Jessica Nelson. "Natalie Bryson also came alive at the plate with a home run as well."

"In the first game, we struggled to close the deal in the sixth inning and let the seventh get away from us," Nelson commented. "A combination of walks and errors made it difficult to catch back up to our original lead.

"But I always tell the girls they have redemption, and so the second game they came back to show how they can really play," the coach added. "Keely Maves delivered at the mound and our girls came ready to hit."

The Lady Buccaneers are 1-1 in 1B Southeast play, 3-3 overall.
