POMEROY–The Port of Garfield is planning a ribbon cutting ceremony for the completion of the laying of the main line of fiber internet in Pataha on May 13. The time has not yet been set.

Laying of the main line of fiber internet in Pataha has been completed, and the retainage will be released as soon as the final paperwork is finished. There was a snafu in the notice of completion with the omission of a subcontractor, but the problem has been identified and the notice is being rewritten and completed. A ribbon cutting ceremony is being planned for May 13. Several offices of state politicians have expressed interest in coming. No time has been announced. The Port of Garfield County will provide drops, the hookup lines that extend from the internet service provider’s terminals on the poles to the houses.

In addition, the Port of Garfield County Commissioners approved improvements to Shepard Field at the meeting April 20.

The Port agreed that extending the chain link fence, removing brush and trees, and placing sprinklers at Shepherd Field is needed but not the responsibility of the Port for the changes. Instead, the Pomeroy School District will make the improvements.

Salaries for office substitutes have been increased from $13.59 to $15 dollars an hour.
