POMEROY–The first day of the 2021-22 school year begins Monday August 30. Junior and Senior high school students (7-12) classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:05 p.m. Elementary students start at 8:20 a.m. then dismissed at 3:00 p.m.

New Student and Pre-Registration

Elementary students new to the Pomeroy School District may pre-register at the Elementary School office, located at 121 10th St., starting August 17. Registration time is 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Please bring immunization records, birth certificate, child's social security number, and any other pertinent records.

New Jr./Sr. High School students will pre-register with Mr. Fred Knebel in the Guidance/Counseling Office at the Jr./Sr. High School August 23–24. Students wishing to change their schedules will need to meet with Mr. Knebel. Registration time is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.


Students and parents wishing to contact the Counseling Office may make appointments with Mr. Knebel after August 23 by calling 843-1331 or 566-7031. He will be available to discuss scheduling, credits, college selections and other related issues.

Elementary Supply List

All registered elementary students will receive a welcome back letter from their teacher that includes a supply list by August 23. Supply lists are now on our website, at psd.wednet.edu. If there are questions, please contact Alaina Fruh at 843-1651, starting August 16.

Returning Student Registration grades 8-12

All returning Jr./Sr. High School students registered, to receive a copy of your schedule stop by the main office on the following dates: Grades 11–12–August 18––9 a.m.–2 p.m .; Grades 9-10–August 19––9 a.m.-2 p.m .; Grades 7-8–August 20––9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Seventh Grade Orientation

Seventh grade student orientation will be held on the first day of school August 30. Amy Miller, High School Principal will provide a power point on Facebook and to the Pomeroy School District website for parents and students prior to August 30. Miller and Knebel will be available during student registration to answer any questions.

School Hours

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)–6th grade, school begins at 8:20 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.

Junior–Senior High School will begin at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:05 p.m.

Meals and School Fees

The Pomeroy School District believes a healthy, nutritious meal program significantly enhances a student's academic performance. A well-balanced, nutritious breakfast is essential to good learning in addition to his or her lunch. Breakfast is available for grades K-12 at the high school building between 7:45 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. each school day. Lunch will be served to grades K-12 in the high school building.

Elementary Secretary Alaina Colbert is available to accept money for meal accounts August 16.

District/ASB Secretary Lori Flynn is available to accept money for ASB fees and meal accounts in the District Office in the Elementary building August 16. You are encouraged to come in early to avoid the first day rush.

Garfield County Treasurer Tereasa Summers has informed the school district that NSP check fee is $39.

The Bus Zone

School buses will unload and load at the east end of the Jr./Sr. High School building on Pataha Street. School bus routes for 2021-22 have minor changes. Have students at their bus stop a few minutes early the first couple days until routine is set. For students new to the school district, please call Jay Franks, transportation supervisor, at 843-3393, 843-8226, or (cell) 556-7027 for scheduling new stop information.

Student and athletic Insurance

Student insurance is available through Myers-Stevens & Toohey & Co., Inc. There are various coverage options offered which include 24-hour coverage, school-time only, a football plan (required to participate in football at Pomeroy High School if your own insurance does not cover football), and dental coverage. ID cards are issued to enrolled students.

Parents or guardians are responsible for mailing or faxing their enrollment form and payment, using a credit card, check or money order to the company. Once the application form with the payment is received and accepted, parents will receive two computer generated ID cards. This will confirm coverage. The enrollment process could take up to three weeks.

Athletes must have insurance coverage before sport participation. To ensure enrollment is processed and confirmed in time for sports practice, pick up application form at the Pomeroy School District Office and mail early. Sr. High School football players must be covered by insurance that covers Tackle Football.

Immunization Records Required

State law requires all students enrolled in public school to be up to date on the required immunizations for their age along with a medical copy of the immunizations before or on the first day of school. Washington State is not allowing any exceptions.

Along with these vaccinations, students age 11 need documentation of an additional Tdap vaccine before starting 7th grade. Failure to provide documentation of the required immunization, will prevent your child from attending school. Please make sure they are up to date.

A parent/guardian signature may also be required on the immunization record for the school file. All Sports Orientation Night

Sports Orientation Night will be held August 16 at 5:30. There will be a COVID vaccination clinic beginning at 5:30 p.m. for those students age 12 years and older. Athletes and parents should complete forms contained in Skyward prior to orientation in case there are any issues. football practice for grades 9-12 will begin August 18. The time will be announced sports orientation night. cross country for grades 8-12 and volleyball for grades 9-12, practices will begin August 23. Times will be announced at sports orientation night.

Back-To-School Night

To kick off the new school year, "Back to School" night for grades TK-12 will be held August 25 at 6–7 p.m. Grades 7-12 will meet at the Jr/Sr High School and TK-6 grades will meet at the elementary school in his or her classrooms. Elementary Students please bring your school supplies this night. Parents as well as students are invited, come and learn about the upcoming year. Face masks will be required for the 2021–22 school year.

School and Sport Pictures

Leo's Photography will take individual and ASB card pictures for grades 6-12 on Wednesday, September 1 and TK-5th grades on Thursday October 7. Re-takes for 6-12 are planned for the afternoon of October 7. All students are photographed for records purposes, even if no pictures are purchased. Picture envelopes will be sent home with students the first day of school

College Information

Pomeroy High School will offer English 201 and 202 through Eastern Washington University, Accounting 201 and 202, and Chemistry 121 through Walla Walla Community College. Tuition information will be explained to students during the first week of class. To qualify, students need to meet minimum PHS/Articulated College requirements prior to enrolling (senior standing, previous course prerequisites, State test scores, etc.). Students with questions can contact Amy Miller or Fred Knebel at the high school 843-1331 beginning Aug 17.

Title IX, Section 504 And Homeless Compliance, Drug and Alcohol

Pomeroy School District #110 complies with Title IX and Section 504 of the Education Amendments of 1973. Title IX requires school districts to provide opportunities for all students and personnel in all areas, regardless of gender. The district has expanded academic and extra-curricular programs for girls in recent years.

Rachel Gwinn serves as Title IX Compliance Officer for the district. Any student or employee who believes he or she has been discriminated against on the basis of gender may appeal through the compliance officer to have the problem corrected.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires school districts to ensure that students who are disabled are identified, evaluated and provided with appropriate educational services. This district shall provide a free, appropriate education to each qualified handicapped person who is in the district's jurisdiction, regardless of the nature or severity of the handicap.

Any employee who believes he or she has been discriminated against on the basis of handicapping condition may appeal through the compliance officer and/or district office to have the problem corrected.

To the extent practical and as required by law, the district will work with homeless students and their families to provide stability in school attendance and other services. Special attention will be given to ensuring the enrollment and attendance of homeless students not currently attending school.

Homeless students will be provided district services for which they are eligible, including Head Start and comparable pre-school programs, Title I, similar state programs, special education, bilingual education, vocational and technical education programs, gifted and talented pro- grams and school nutrition programs.

Homeless students are defined as lacking a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence, including: sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing or economic hardship; living in motels, hotels, trailer parks or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations; living in emergency or transitional shelters; are abandoned in hospitals; awaiting foster care placement; living in public or private places not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodations for human beings; living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, transportation stations or similar settings; migratory children living in conditions described in the previous examples.

Fred Knebel is the district's liaison for homeless students and their families.
