Testing to be required for unvaccinated Pirate basketball players

August 26, 2021

POMEROY–The Garfield County Health District announced mandatory testing for unvaccinated Pirate basketball players at a meeting on August 23. All unvaccinated basketball players will be tested twice a week, 24 hours before a competition, and three days after a competition. Volleyball will not require testing because it is classed as a 'moderate' activity, and football will not require it either because it is played outside.

The Health District passed three resolutions at its meeting as well. Resolution 2021-19 offers Patti Weaver a contract with the district as a Contact Tracer. Resolution 2021-20 is an extension to the existing contract to reimburse the Sheriff's Office for solid waste investigation hours. Resolution 2021-21 is an extension with the City of Pomeroy for reimbursement of solid waste investigation hours. Resolution 2021-22 is an increase of Program Coordinator hours from 30 to 32 hours a week.

The Health District also announced that breakthrough cases will be tracked by Washington State Department of Health.
