POMEROY–The Garfield County Pioneer Association met on Tuesday, August 24, to discuss finalizing plans for the upcoming Fall Bus Tour of the Mayview area scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2021.

Because the Mayview district is so rich with pioneer history, the tour will be done in two parts. The September tour will include sites such as the original trail from Gould City (known as the “Forks of the Deadman” in early days), McGrann Hill Road, the Lynn schoolhouse, to the top of Shepherd Hill and down into Mayview, circling into the Victor place and over Chapel Hill.

There is no charge for this tour but donations to help defray costs will be accepted. Current plans are to have three county transportation buses available. The group will be following COVID requirements and Garfield County Health Department guidelines in place on that date. Because the biggest concern is transportation due to the coronavirus, possible alternatives were suggested, such as keeping vaccinated tour-goers separated from non-vaccinated ones by having those who have not been vaccinated travel in private vehicles rather than on the vans.

Ads for the tour closer to the date will be in the paper and interested parties should call Diana Burt at 843-1732 to sign up.

A memorial plaque created to honor Roger Koller for his many years of involvement with the Pioneer Association will be presented during the tour. Tim Burt told the group that a new variety of wheat developed at Washington State University has been named “Roger” Also, since Roger was the main coordinator of the Pioneer Day Parade, volunteers are needed to assist with the parade next spring on Pioneer Day.

Seven members were present and the minutes and treasurer’s report from the previous meeting were read and approved. The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at the museum.
