Sandy Barr, the 2021 Hall of Fame Honoree, is a great supporter of the classic county fair. She has volunteered as a member of the flower barn, the Home Economics superintendent, then back to the flower barn as superintendent. She values and enjoys the time-honored traditions the Garfield County Fair holds for the community.

POMEROY–The Hall of Fame Fair Honoree 2021 Sandy Barr will be recognized at the Chamber of Commerce annual Cowboy Breakfast at Spinner's Maple Hall on Saturday, September 18 at 6:30–9 a.m.

The Pomeroy Chamber of Commerce's annual tradition of honoring a long-time Garfield County Fair volunteer will be held at the Spinner's Maple Hall on Saturday, September 18. This year's honoree, Sandy Barr, will be recognized as this year's 2021 Hall of Fame Fair Honoree. The Cowboy Breakfast includes a full breakfast, even pancakes! State Covid requirements will be followed. Pomeroy Chamber President, Ashley Dixon is thrilled to announce Sandy Barr as this year's award recipient.

Barr moved to Pomeroy in the summer of 1994 with her husband Clay and three children, Laura, Paul, and Shannon where they have farmed for nearly 30 years. Her volunteer work with the Garfield County Fair began in the flower barn as a member of the Spade Swingers Garden Club. She moved to the Home Economics department as baking superintendent for several years. When the canning position opened up, she turned the baking reigns over to her oldest daughter, Laura and they spent many years working side by side in the Dick Brown building.

Gardening is one of her life's passions and Barr eventually returned to the flower barn as superintendent. In 2014, she and Linda McKeirnan spearheaded a makeover, painting the barn's interior prior to fair that year with many other volunteers. Those efforts paid off and they were awarded the coveted black and white ribbon from the Washington State Fair Commission.

Barr's annual involvement with the fair reaches from one end of the fairgrounds to the other. She can be found running back and forth from the flower barn to the show rings, first watching her daughter Shannon show steers and then her Dixon grandkids with all their livestock projects.

Barr serves as the gate keeper during the children's games during Saturday fair festivities. She has lined up generations of kids and loves seeing their excited faces year after year! "I have had the great pleasure of working with my friend Sandy on many occasions," said McKeirnan. "In every circumstance Sandy planned and executed the job to perfection. Sandy is a true and faithful supporter of our Garfield County Fair!"

"I love the Garfield County Fair because it is such a wonderful community event," said Barr. "It brings families together to share in long-standing traditions. Our fair is unique with its time-honored focus on education from youth projects, home economics demonstrations, and various info booths. It is a great joy to watch our town come together year after year to put on such a special fair and I am grateful to be a part of it."
