Pomeroy Invitational has 11 team field

Pomeroy Cross Country runner Trevin Walton heads into second lap with teammate Cash Copher not far behind during the Boys portion of the Pomeroy Invitational last week. Walton finished eighth and Copher 13th in the two-mile XC race.

POMEROY––Pirate Cross Country runner Trevin Walton finished eighth in a field of 15 in the Pomeroy Invitational XC meet last Wednesday, September 22 at Lybecker Field. It was the Pirate harriers' first meet of the fall season.

A District 7/9 meet in Lewiston was held Wednesday, September 28 at Lewiston's Lewis Clark State College course, with another meeting of District 7/9 runners set for October 5 in Colfax. The Inland Empire Meet is set for 9:30 a.m. on October 9 in Lewiston on the LCSC course.

Walton's time was 14.34 for the two-mile race involving five area teams: Colton, St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse, Touchet, Tekoa-Rosalia and Pomeroy.

Samuel Lamb came in eleventh with a time of 15:17 and Cash Copher was thirteenth in 15:41.

Tanner Baerlocher of Colton was first with 12:24.

Middle-school boys ran a 1.5-mile race and Pomeroy's Evan Thomas was fifth with a 10:50 time. Oscar Dispenza was 22nd in 13:21 and Ismael Areteaga was 29th in 19:05.


Middle-school girls included Baby Johnson in eighth in 15:53 and Haven Kimble in 10th in 16:13.

Pirate XC's second meet was in Potlatch, Id., on Sept. 25. Walton was Pomeroy's leading runner, finishing 26th in a field of 48 with a time of 23:02 over the 3.1-mile course. Finishing 44th was Pirate Samuel Lamb, in 27:05; and 48th was Cash Copher in 33:49. Top finisher was Kellen Souza of IC Academy in 17:27.5.

At Potlatch, Thomas was 21st in the Middle School boys' 3,200 m. competition in 13:49.9 and Arteaga finished 41st in 23:35.7. Johnson was 30th in the girls' 3,200 in 21:19.4 and Madeline Loucks was 31st in 22:10.6.
