Colton Slaybaugh sets state pole vault record

RITZVILLE–The Pirate boys finished fifth at the Undeberg Invitational here last weekend, scoring 44 points and the girls were 11th with 25 points as Pirate Track and Field standouts continued their superlative performances. At an earlier meet, Colton Slaybaugh set a new state 1B pole vault record.

Next up for the Pirate track team was a Tuesday, May 3 meet, the D9 1B League Championships at Lybecker Field, followed by the Pirate Battle at Twilight on Friday, May 6, also on the home field. May 11 is the D7/9 District Championships at Ritzville.

Colton Slaybaugh continued his winning ways with a first place in the pole vault, clearing 13-0 at Ritzville. On the girls’ side, Katie Boyer took second in the pole vault with a 7-6 mark.

Along with the team’s top performers, Head Coach Adam Van Vogt said “Kyzer Herres (who was 9th in the 400) and Trevin Walton (9th in long jump) barely missed placing.  Kyzer’s time of 58.19 is a new personal best,” Van Vogt said. 

“Raelin Borley set new personal bests of 96’6” in discus and 100’11” in javelin,” Van Vogt said. “Michealle Debord set a new personal best in the 100 (15.17).

“Braedon Fruh split 56 seconds in his leg of the 4x400, the coach observed. “He got the team off to a great start and ran a top-ten time in state in his first time ever running a competitive 400.”

Tyler Slaybaugh- 3rd in the 100 (12.02).

Troy Steele- 3rd in javelin (139’9.5”) and 7th in shot put (37’3”).

Braedon Fruh- 2nd in pole vault (12’).

Tyler Bagby- 4th in pole vault (11’).

Boy’s 4x100 Relay- 3rd (47.38) Braedon Fruh, Kyzer Herres, Tyler Slaybaugh, Colton Slaybaugh 

Boys’ 4x400 Relay- 8th (4:07) Braedon Fruh, Trevin Walton, Kyzer Herres, Josh Kepner

Girls who placed with the top 8 scoring points:

Raelin Borley- 4th in shot put (32’6”), 5th in discus (96’6”), and 5th in javelin (100’11”)

Haliee Brewer- 8th in long jump (13’3.5”)

Girl’s 4x100 Relay- 8th (58.44) Bethany Zimmerman, Katie Boyer, Michealle Debord, Hallie Brewer

At Clarkston High School on April 26, Colton Slaybaugh set the 1B state record at 14’6”, breaking his old record of 14’5.5”.

Katie Boyer set personal bests in the pole vault, breaking 8’ for the first time and in her long jump at 13’11”.

Other personal bests, Van Vogt said, were set by Haliee Brewer in pole vault (7’) and long jump (14’4.5”), Natalia Larios in long jump (11’), Bethany Zimmerman in triple jump (24’7”), John Michael Ames in discus (73’3”), Sidney Bales in pole vault (12’9”), Braedon Fruh in pole vault (12’6”), Josh Kepner in long jump (15’9.25”), Samuel Lamb in the 400 (1:05), Colton Slaybaugh in pole vault (14’6”) and long jump (18’3”), Trevin Walton in the 100 (13.14), Greg Weatherspoon in the javelin (74’11”) and Ivan Weatherspoon in the javelin (71’8”).

Sidney Bales- 2nd in the 100 (12.0) and 2nd in pole vault (12’9”)

Tyler Slaybaugh- 3rd in the 100 (12.1)

Troy Steele- 3rd in shot put (38’.5”), 3rd in javelin (123’1”), and 7th in discus (95’)

Colton Slaybaugh- 1st in pole vault (14’6”) and 4th in long jump (18’3”)
