Pirate golfer Elena Morfin makes a swing during play at the Pomeroy Invitational last week. Morfin finished in 111 strokes to lead Pirate girls in that match, and last Monday, she, Chase Caruso, Kiersten Bartels, Brady Bott and Jett Slusser each qualified for the District match in Clarkston May 16.

WALLA WALLA–The Pomeroy Golf Team is sending five golfers to District in Clarkston on May 16.

Chase Caruso continued to chase the district championship, winning the field of 17 girls at Walla Walla's Veterans Memorial Course last Monday with an 84 at Sub-District.

"Chase Caruso once again led the girls' field," said Head Coach Al Damron, "this time by an impressive 33-stroke advantage over the second-place finisher, carding an 84 at the sub-District."

Brady Bott shot a 97 to tie for second in the 23-player field, Damron said. "Brady tied for second with a 97 thanks to a very good 45 on the back nine," Damron said. "Brady broke his wrist just before the season and it's really nice to see him have a good day."

Joining Caruso will be Kiersten Bartels, who finished seventh with a 128 score, and Elena Morfin, in eighth a stroke behind at 129.

Also advancing was Jett Slusser, who tied for eighth place with a 103 score.

Reggie Ott and Grayson Slaybaugh finished just out of the money at 122.

Five District 9 golf teams competed at sub-district, he said. Out of the match May 16 in Clarkston, the top six boys and top four girls will advance to State at the Deer Park Golf Course on May 27-28.

The Pirates hosted Tekoa Rosalia and Yakima Tribal at Crystal Springs Golf Course on Tuesday, May 3.

Pirate Jett Slusser was second at 86, one stroke behind Jayden Scabbyrobe of Yakama Tribal School at 85.

Elena Morfin scored 111 and Kiersten Bartels was second with 112, both for the Pirates.

Other Pirate participants were Brady Bott 97, and Reggie Ott 101.
