Pioneer Celebration weekend events

POMEROY–The Garfield County Pioneer Association will celebrate over 100 years of community heritage Friday and Saturday June 10 and 11. The featured events for this year’s observance are Wine and Stein, the annual Garfield County Pioneer Association meeting and Pioneer Celebration Day, tribute to the Balchly family as Honored Pioneer, 76–78-year high school reunion grads, parades, and a food fair.

To get the weekend celebration started, the Wine and Stein, a Pomeroy Community Center and Seeley Theatre sponsored event, will be held at Spinners Hall at 7th and Columbia St., and offer beverages from several breweries and wineries on Friday, June 10 from 5-11:30 p.m. Garfield County Transpiration has partnered with Pomeroy Partners to provide a safe, comfortable ride to your home or destination after the Wine and Stein festivities.

The line-up for Saturday, June 11 starts with the Pioneer Parade down Main Street which will feature reunion class floats, kids, horses, old cars, fire trucks and more. Please no commercial or political entries. Participants will prepare for the procession at the City Park at 9 a.m. There will be an award for the decorated class float.

Following the parade, the Food Fair will offer many lunch menu choices such as hamburgers, salad bar, homemade pies, loaded baked potatoes, ice cream and much more, all available at the Spinner’s Maple Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Garfield County Pioneer Association will hold their annual meeting at the historic Seeley Theater on Saturday, June 11 at 1 p.m. “Communities of The Past–Ilia” will be honored and is the theme for the 2022 Pioneer Day celebration to be held that day. Barbara Burt, Eloise Bartlow, Jack Waldher and Harold Waldher will also be honored as 76, 77 and 78-year Pomeroy High School grads. The program will include history of the Honored Pioneer, Elmon Blachly family, the story of Ilia and musical entertainment. All are welcome to celebrate Garfield County’s pioneer heritage.
