Letters to the Editor

June 2, 2022

To the editor,

Tumbleweed Weekend. There has been a lot of discourse over the years about the term “Tumbleweed Weekend”. I have some in our community say that it is outdated, that it doesn’t put our town in a nice light, and that it should be done away with altogether. I could not disagree more.

To me, Tumbleweed Weekend is very dear to my heart. I have such fond memories of decorating my bike or my power wheels car to ride in the parade, or walking with my Girl Scout Troop, or just sitting on the sidewalk waiting for candy. Now that I am older, Tumbeweed means class reunions, getting together to share those old memories.

Before the pandemic I was lucky to have my 10 Year Class Reunion in 2019 at the Tumbeweed Weekend Wine & Stein. I am looking forward to many more years of reunion weekends during Tumbelweed.

To me, as a member of the “younger generation” (under 35), who has come back to Pomeroy, Tumbleweed Weekend is a wonderful, nostalgic, fun and excellent tradition to describe the festivities that occur here in Pomeroy on the second weekend of June. I just wanted to say for many of us Pomeranian 30-somethings out there, Tumbleweed Weekend means a lot, and we hope the name never changes.
