Cross Country runners making time improvements

CONNELL–The one-two punch of Samuel Lamb and Cash Copher is representing Pomeroy in cross-country meets this season, lately at the Connell Invitational.

“They did an excellent job competing against 24 additional teams around the state and 129 athletes,” commented Head Coach Greg Sharp.

Cross country competed at St. John in the Northeast 1B/2B South League Meet earlier this week then on Saturday, October 1, they will run in the Inland Empire Championships at the LSCS course in Lewiston.

“Our Middle School and High School athletes ran a tough race today [Saturday, September 24] at Connell,” Sharp said. “The Middle School ran the terrain below the School District and finished the last 150 yard stretch uphill to the finish line. The High School ran the same terrain along with a quarter mile uphill stretch around the upper baseball/softball fields before finishing.”


Senior harrier Lamb was 116th with a 26:35 time and junior Cash Copher came in 125th in 31:56.

Middle schooler Oscar Dispenza finished 19th in 11:51.

Sharp praised his team for improving times over the previous meet in competing in the North and South All League Meet September 20 in Spangle at Liberty High School. Times improved between eight and 22 seconds from the previous meet, Sharp said. There were 20 teams and 113 competitors.

Copher finished 82nd in 25:52:91 and Lamb was 83rd in 26:02.55.
