November 17, 2022

POMEROY–The Garfield County Fire District No.1 board of commissioners discussed an addendum to the 2022 budget, an upcoming Emergency Medical Technician class, and approved the job description for a grant coordinator at their meeting on November 8.

The addendum moves money that was going into reserves and puts it into personnel and fire tools. It also adds $75,000 of MSI grant money, of which $25,000 is expected to be received in December.

An EMT class will begin on December 6 and will end in the beginning of March 2023. As of the meeting date, there were 10 seats available in the class. Fire Chief James Cleveland stated that he wanted to get as many local people to come to the class as possible. The class is funded through a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. Chief Cleveland is working toward becoming a certified EMT instructor and this class should provide the final teaching experience that he needs to become certified.

The job description for hiring a grant coordinator community service tech had some changes to the legal language to clarify it as well as a few changes to the EMT language in the qualifications section.

The commissioners will hold a special meeting on November 22 at 5 p.m. to approve the 2023 budget. State numbers are not released yet, but the approved budget needs to be sent to Garfield County before their regularly scheduled December meeting.
