Juniors and lady shooter propped up club scores

February 2, 2023

POMEROY–Local junior gun club shooters, and lady shooter were an asset to club scores at the very cold fourth week of Camas Prairie 2023 competition.

Week four results of the 2023 Camas Prairie competition would have been bleak if it had not been for the efforts of some Junior shooters and Lady Shooter Holly Ledgerwood. Very cold and breezy conditions made the two days very tough for many shooters.

In the 12-year-old and under division the 16-yard event was led by the 21X25 score of Carter Barron. Luke Collier managed a score of 19. Barron also led the younger shooters with a 19 in Handicap followed by Collier with an 18.

In the Sub Junior Division Byron Collier and Sawyer Brenner broke scores of 24 which were a big asset to the Adults and the Junior program. Brenner and Gunner Magill led the middle-class youth with 23s in Handicap.

In the Junior class, Ollie Severs posted a perfect 25 in the 16 yd. shooting to really help the junior program as well as the adult program. Mason Garcia also helped both groups with a 24 for the Day. In Junior Handicap Severs and Colby Ledgerwood had scores of 23 and Brodie Magill had a 22.

In the Adult 16-yard shoot, Lady shooter Holly Ledgerwood shot her second perfect 25 in four weeks which was the only 25 for the week by adults. Lee Blachly had the only 24 by an Adult so the 25 by Severs and the 24s by three youth shooters really helped the Senior Club as Junior scores can be used in both Divisions. Ledgerwood put herself in a good position in the Camas Prairie All-Star competition in the Lady division. In Handicap Buck Geiger had a perfect 25 for the Adults and Matt Fitzgerald posted a 24.

In Continental competition Sean Beale and Luke Ledgerwood led all shooters with scores of 24. Buck Geiger, Travis Ledgerwood, Ben Feider, and Larry Bunch all had scores of 23. In Continentals, the trap machine not only oscillates from left to right but also moves up and down to create a difficult target that is thrown at 50 miles per hour. The shooter is allowed two shells that can be fired at the same target if the first shot misses. Regular trap targets are usually thrown at 42-43 Miles per hour.

Buck Geiger had the top score of 47 in Doubles, while Jim Adams and Brian Bingman posted scores of 44X50.

Weiser, Idaho Gun Club is leading the Camas Prairie Standings with a perfect score of 300.00 after four weeks. Pomeroy Gun Club is 4.5 targets behind at 295.50 in 5th place. The Pomeroy Junior Shooters moved into second place in Competition nine targets behind leader Hermiston, Oregon. In the Spokesman Review 8 week shoot Pomeroy Gun Club is leading Division III by one target after 3 weeks. The Pomeroy juniors are in 3 place 5 Targets Back.

Shooting will resume next Saturday February 4 for Juniors at 8 a.m., and Sunday February 5 for the Senior Club 9 a.m.
