Jr. Hi Volleyball

The Pomeroy Jr. High "A" volleyball team played two matches on the road this week, traveling to Oakesdale and Asotin, suffering its first loss to Oakesdale then defeating Asotin.

"We got off to a slow start in Oakesdale and dropped the first game, played better in the second game and lost a tight match before taking the third game," said Coach Adam VanVogt. "I was happy to see us battle and get progressively better throughout the night. I think we learned a lesson about our mindset when playing a tough team on the road that will help our girls in future seasons."

The A Team put that lesson into practice in Asotin as we started off strong and had great energy from the beginning, he said. Serving was aggressive and the team rallied well.

Pomeroy heads into its final week with a 7-1 record.

A week earlier, Pomeroy defeated SJE and Colton at home in Jr. High "A" team volleyball action. Pomeroy won against SJE 25-18, 25-11, 15-4, and over Colton 25-11, 25-1, 15-3.

"We had a tough time serving against SJE and allowed them to hang around for a while in game 1 but we rallied and serve received well and that allowed us to stay in control despite the tough night serving," VanVogt said. "Although I was disappointed in our serving issues, I give these girls a ton of credit for not letting it affect the rest of their play. We were focused, composed, and did a great job of getting the ball right back until the serving came around in mid-game 2."

Against Colton, we served 90% as a team, which is excellent and when the other team rallied with us, our transitions were crisp, communication was excellent, and we simply didn't make many errors, he said.

Hollie Van Vogt and Kylee Wegrzyn served every serve in the second match with the exception of one serve from Colton and when Colton returned the ball, Pomeroy took the point each time.

Carmen Fruh and Molly Warren dominated at the net in the middle and the girls played so well as a team, he said.

"I was pleased with how well we bounced back at the serve line and kept our focus throughout the match," VanVogt said.
