Commissioners hear FFA Ag Issues presentation

POMEROY–The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) approved two bids and opened a third at their meeting on April 3, and approved two bids, signed a proclamation, and heard a presentation from the Pomeroy FFA Ag Issues team at their meeting on April 10.

Chip Sealing bids from Ergon Emulsions and Atlas Sand and Rock, opened at a previous meeting, were approved. Ergon Emulsions will supply Garfield County with oil, and Atlas Sand and Rock will supply the base materials. The bid from Ergon Emulsions was for approximately $74,000, and the bid from Atlas was approximately $15,000.

A bid for 400 tons of commercial hot-mix asphalt was received from Herco, Inc., for $34,344. The amount comes under the budgeted figure by $20 per ton. After review, it was accepted at the April 10 meeting.


Also accepted at the April 10 meeting was a bid from Diesel Laptops for computer software in the amount of $14,127.16. This software will be used by the Garfield County Public Works to read engine repair codes.

The BOCC signed a proclamation declaring April 9-15 to be National Public Safety Tele-communicators Week to honor the men and women of Garfield County's dispatch who play a vital role in keeping the public safe.

The Pomeroy FFA Ag Issues team gave their Clean Energy presentation. The presentation featured arguments for and against current clean energy options.

The team will compete in the Washington State FFA contest in May.
