Races form but will skip August 1 Primary

POMEROY–Races for City of Pomeroy Council positions have gelled with the end of the filing period last week. Incumbent Mayor G. Paul Miller will be opposed in the November 7 General Election by Jack Peasley, and Council Members 2 and 3 will also see races.

A Garfield County Special Filing Period will be May 31 through June 2 for the Port Commissioner District 2, a six-year term. The position is currently held by incumbent Matt Herres. Candidates may file in person at the Garfield County Auditor's Office or online at the Secretary of State's website. See the public notice in this edition for additional details.

Vying for position number two will be Roni Field and James R. Fuchs, and seeking number three will be Kurt L. Tetrick and Leann Clayton. Rachel Anderson is the sole candidate for member number one and John Hirsch is unopposed for member number five.

Other elective offices filed for include: Fire District No. 1 Commissioner No. 3-Gary Bowles; Hospital District Commissioner No. 3-Bart K. Gingerich; Hospital Commissioner No. 4-Jennifer Dixon; School Director No. 1-Bart K. Gingerich; School Director No. 3-Ashley Koller and School Director At Large 5-Allison McKeirnan.

Three have filed for Clarkston School District's Director No. 1 seat: incumbent Rachel M. Rinards, Rick Hanks and Dan Randles. This race will be decided in the Aug. 1 primary. Director No. 2, Miles Sidenar, and No. 3, Dennis R. Lenz, are unopposed. Incumbent Chris Bunce will be challenged by Todd Snarr in the general.

In Dayton and Columbia County, Mayor Zac Weatherford and Councilman Dain Nysoe will not seek re-election to office, and Roger Trump will run unopposed in the November 7 General Election for the open mayoral position and Nysoe's seat No. 4 will have a General-Election runoff between Joann E. Patras and Devin Greenup.

The name of recently appointed Columbia County Auditor Will Hutchens will appear on the August 1 Primary Election per state law requirements that an unexpired term of an elective office be on the next ballot. The unopposed ballot will be the only local office to appear on the Primary ballot.

Council Position 2 was filed for by incumbent James Su'euga, and recent appointee Shannon L. McMillen has filed to remain in the unexpired term for Position No. 6. Incumbent Kyle Anderson filed for re-election to his No. 6 post.

In the Town of Starbuck, Council Member No. 1 has a General Election race brewing between Charles Hill and Traci Mings. Don W. Jackson is seeking re-election to Position No. 3 and Britney Russell is running unopposed for No. 5.

Unopposed candidates for Fire District Commissioner are: Harvey Fletcher, District 1, No 1; Jim Hickam, District 2, No. 3; and Patrick Barker, District 3, No. 2.

Port of Columbia has a race on for the position currently held by Genie Crowe. Filing for the District 2 seat are Randy Schafer and Mike Spring.

Hospital District Commissioner Colleen Sproul, in District 2, filed for re-election and will be challenged by Lindsey Anderson in the General Election. Recent appointee Jamie Smit is running unopposed for Position 5.

Dayton School District will see three incumbents filing to continue as directors: Zachary Fabian, Pos. 2; Grant Griffen, Pos. 3 and Aneesha Dieu, Pos. 4.

Candidates for Starbuck School Director-At Large 5 are Joanne Knouf and Joshua Hershaw. The race will be decided in November. Diane Lusk is unopposed for position 2.

There will be a race for incumbent Christy House's Waitsburg School District Director No. 2 post, with Tia Hays challenging. District 1 candidate is Sarah Boudrieau, District 4 is Abby Grende for an unexpired term, and No. 5 is Carol Clarke.
