Pirate Track and Field is state bound, and three of the Pirates finished first in their events at the 1B D7 & D9 Regionals, and the Pirate Pole Vault team captured all six–count 'em–six state berths in that event. Sidney Bales and Katie Boyer both won the pole vault, Bales at 13-3 and Boyer at 8-6, and Tyler Slaybaugh, not pictured, finished the 100m dash in first place in 11:57.

COLFAX–The heat sheet for the 1B State Track and Field Championships, this weekend in Yakima, is unique: six of the 14 state berths, indeed five of the top six, are Pomeroy Pirates, and a total of ten Pirates will be competing-meet. The Pomeroy boys were edged into second place by Mary Walker, five points separating the teams, and the Pirate Women finished ninth with 29 points at the 1B D7 & D9 Regional at Colfax last weekend.

Sidney Bales and Katie Boyer were regional champions-pole vault.

"We swept the guys pole vault at regionals," commented Head Coach Adam Van Vogt. "A pretty cool feat." The top six boys and top four girls at regionals advance to state.

"In weather that was sweltering hot, our kids competed hard and did well," Van Vogt noted.
