Pirate Jr. Hi Track meet April 29

POMEROY–Junior High track competed in a home meet on April 29. It was a league meet that saw 10 teams come to Pomeroy. The Pirate boys took 1st place and the girls finished 3rd.

Top scorer for the boys was Christian Ramirez. Christian placed in the top 3 in all four of his events. He won the 200 while setting a new personal best time, took 2nd in long jump and pole vault, and finished 3rd in the 100.

Kaleb Miller and Owen Wolf placed in three events. Owen took 1st in pole vault at a personal best 7', 5th in long jump, and ran on the 4x1 relay with Sam Bagby, Jovani Polanco, and Kaleb Miller. Owen also set a personal best 16.77 in the 100. Kaleb also took 2nd in the 800 and 3rd in discus. Both his 800 and discus are jr. high bests for him and his 2:12.18 in the 800 extends his junior high record set earlier this season.

Other personal bests by the boys set at this meet were by Dylan Taylor in the 1600 (6:39) and javelin (43'1") and Caleb Zimmermann in the 100 (17.11).

Hollie Van Vogt placed in all four events for the girls. She had two individual first place finishes, in javelin and pole vault, as well as a 2nd place finish in the 100. She also ran with Ariah Bingman, Reagan McKeirnan, and Brianne Davis on the 1st place 4x1 team. Hollie's javelin throw of 92'7" also extended her school record in the event and was the 3rd longest throw of any athlete both boy or girl.

Ariah Bingman took home an individual 1st place finish to go along with her relay 1st place finish as she won the 1600. Ariah also placed 7th in the hurdles to score in three events.

Reagan McKeirnan placed three events as well as she ran on the relay, took 2nd in pole vault, and finished 6th in javelin.

Sophie Miller had her best meet yet. She placed 7th in javelin and set a personal best in the 100 with a time of 16.89. Other personal bests set by the girls include Brianne Davis in the 200 (36.20), and Emma Phelps in the 100 (17.81).

The weather didn't cooperate to make this a great meet for setting personal bests but our athletes still managed to overcome the weather to do well. I was proud of how hard we tried and how well we competed despite the less-than-optimal weather.
