POMEROY–Friends of Denny Ashby Library and Denny Ashby Library present “The Art of Chicken Whispering: Finding Hope in Unexpected Places, by Kristin Jarvis Adams at the Garfield County Senior Center, 695 Main Street, on October 21 at 12:30 p.m.
Adams, who authored “The Chicken Who Saved Us: The Remarkable Story of Andrew and Frightful, will speak on the background about the story in her new book, The Art of Chicken Whispering: Finding Hope in Unexpected Places.
The story is based on an eight-year-old boy with autism who found a way to tell his story through a little chick named Frightful, an entire community sat up and listened. And when his mother admitted her deepest fears to a listening ear, light flooded into the darkness. What then, could happen if our communities began sharing difficult stories and having heart-opening conversations? Could it change the way we live?
Using stories from her award-winning book, The Chicken Who Saved Us, author Kristin Jarvis Adams shares how a little ‘chicken whispering’ transformed her son’s life and forged a new community around a story filled with improbable hope and miraculous healing.
Kristin Jarvis Adams is the winner of the Nancy Pearl Book Award, the Gold IPPY Award, and is a Washington State Book Award Finalist. Her memoir The Chicken Who Saved Us: The Remarkable Story of Andrew and Frightful has received national attention in the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Fred Hutch News, and on NBC News affiliates. Her writing can be found in the Washington Post, ParentMap Magazine, Autism Parenting Magazine, The Autism Blog, Focus on the Family, Salvation Army’s War Cry, and Seattle Children’s Pulse. She is an advocate for children with special needs and serves on the board of the Lake Washington School District Transition Academy, one of the nation’s leading transition programs for adult students with special needs. She is a member of the Festival of Trees Guild at Seattle Children’s Hospital, a fundraising and awareness group supporting children with autism in Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho.
