POMEROY–General Election ballots are scheduled to mail to registered voters on Friday, October 18, 2019, according to Garfield County Auditor Donna Deal.

The deadline to register to vote by mail or online for the 2019 General Election is Monday, October 28, 2019.

The 2019 General Election ballot will contain the following candidates, referendum and initiatives:

City of Pomeroy-Mayor, four-year term, G. Paul Miller; City Council four-year term, positions No. 1-K. Mike Cassetto, No. 2-James R. Fuchs, No. 3-Adam Hodges.

Garfield County Fire District-Fire Commissioner No. 2, Don McGreevy, Aaron Stallcop. Ed Fruh is conducting a write-in campaign.

Garfield County Hospital District-Commissioner No. 5, six-year term, Sherry L. Ledgerwood and Michael Field.

Port of Garfield-Commissioner 1, six-year term, Edward G. Crawford

Pomeroy School District 110 Columbia, Garfield County: Director 1, four-year term, Bart Gingerich; Director; No. 3, four-year term, Ashley Koller; Director AL5, four-year term, Allison McKeirnan.

School District 35J Asotin, Garfield, Whitman Counties: Director No. 1, four-year term, Meghan Pierce, Director No. 2, four-year- term, Miles Sidener; Director No. 3, four-year term, Dennis Lenz; Director No. 5, two-year term, Russ Davis; Position No. 2, two-year term, Geremy D. Nelson.

Referendum Measure No. 88 concerns affirmative action and remedying discrimination; Initiative Measure No. 976 concerns motor vehicle taxes and fees; Advisory Vote No. 20 concerns wage premium for long-term care services; Advisory Vote No. 21 concerns the business and occupation tax for extracting, manufacturing, and selling timber and timber-related products; Advisory Vote No. 22 concerns retail sales tax on architectural paint; Advisory Vote No. 23 concerns a tax on the sale, use, consumption, handling, possession and distribution of vapor products;.

Advisory Vote No. 24 concerns an additional service and other business and occupation tax for certain specified business activities; Advisory Vote No. 25 concerns an additional business and occupational tax for certain specified financial institutions; Advisory Vote No. 26 concerns an application of the state tax code to certain remote sellers, marketplace facilitators, and others; Advisory Vote No. 27 concerns taxes on petroleum products.

Advisory Vote No. 28 concerns sales and use taxes on certain nonresidents by limiting the exemption applicable to them; Advisory Vote No. 29 concerns the real estate excise tax on certain sales of real property; Advisory Vote No. 30 concerns the business and occupation tax on certain travel agents and tour operators; Advisory Vote No. 31 concerns the business and occupation tax on certain international investment management services.

A Proposed Constitutional Amendment concerning legislative powers in times of emergency; and Garfield County Hospital District No. 1, One Year Special Levy concerning a proposition to finance and maintain the availability of health care services.

If you are not a registered voter or need to request a replacement ballot, contact the Garfield County Auditor’s Office at 509-843-1411. This is the only office to issue replacement ballots.

Applicants with a current Washington State Driver’s License or identification can register to vote electronically at http://www.votewa.gov.

Those who are not currently registered in the State of Washington or wanting to change their voter information may appear in person at the Garfield County Auditor’s Office, 789 Main St., Pomeroy, through Tuesday, November 5, 2019 during regular business hours.

To assist voters in marking their ballot, a disability access unit is available at the Auditor’s office during normal business hours 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday-Friday starting on October 18 and 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. on election day, November 5.

Ballots may be returned by mail, by drop box or in-person. Ballots must be postmarked or deposited by 8 p.m. on Election Day, November 5, 2019.
