POMEROY–The 1B Southeast League leaders Lady Pirates continued their undefeated run with wins over Touchet here Saturday and at DeSales last week. Pomeroy beat the Indians 43-24 and survived a lackluster outing against the Lady Irish on January 7, eking out a 37-29 win.

The Lady Pirates are first in the 1B Southeast League with a 5-0 record. Oakesdale is second at 3-1 and Colton and Garfield-Palouse are tied for third with 2-2 records. Pomeroy sits atop the WIAA 1B Girls RPI ranking with a .76544 rating as of this week.

Pomeroy hosts Sunnyside Christian for a non-conference game there this Friday and hits the road to LaCrosse for the second meeting with SJEL this season on Saturday.

The Lady Pirates easily cruised by the Lady Indians 43-24. Maddy Dixon was strong in the paint, scoring 21, snaring 21 rebounds and stealing four.

Heidi Heytvelt was "the spark and energy we needed when we lost some momentum," said Head Coach Tai Bye. Heytvelt scored 12, rebounded six and dished six assists.

"We did some good things tonight but didn't play consistent enough to really get into a rhythm throughout the entire game," Bye commented. "Our best play tonight came from taking our time and finishing our shots."

At DeSales last week, the Lady Pirates fought lackadaisical play and unforced turnovers, Bye said. "Simply put, we played too relaxed, had too many avoidable turnovers, and didn't rebound well. We won on pure defensive effort and gutting it out in the fourth quarter."

Dixon was again a force down low with 18 points and seven rebounds, with Heytvelt adding seven from the floor and four steals.

"This was a good wake-up call for us and made our girls really focus and find a way to win," Bye said.
