Garfield County Hospital District is proud to announce December's Employee of the Month, Larry Larson, Environmental Services. He was nominated by his co-workers as a "long-time dedicated employee who greets patients, staff and visitors with a warm smile and a friendly hello."

Lason was born in Seattle, Wash., and later moved to Brewster, Wash., where attended grade school. While in sixth grade, he relocated to Pomeroy and graduated in 1992. His earliest work experience started at Custom Apple Packers in Brewster, Wash., during the summer months. Larson began working for Blue Ribbon Linen Supply in Lewiston in the spring of 1993 where he gained valuable laundry experience.

In 1994 Larson became employed at Garfield County Hospital District working in the Housekeeping Department. His hard work ethic was soon recognized by management and his janitorial duties expanded to working in the Laundry Department. Larry gives exceptional service and makes the patients and visitors feel welcome with his genuine smile and pleasant greeting. He is always willing to go above and beyond his job duties, whether it's changing out lights, shoveling snow, or assisting the nursing staff, Larson is quick to offer his help. "I am an all-around helper in the hospital and clinic. I will help the CNAs out if they need a bed made or help out the Maintenance Department when they need an extra hand."

As one of the District's longest working employees, Larry is considered a deeply devoted and dedicated team member. In his twenty-six years of working at the hospital, he has only missed six days of work! This is an outstanding record, one that no one has achieved before. When asked what he likes best about his job, he replied. "I just like really talking with the residents and listening to their stories about back in the day when they were younger. I like to help them out, clean their room, get them a glass of water or coffee and put a smile on their face." Larson enjoys greeting all the patients with a joyful welcome of "Good morning!" or "Have a good breakfast" as they sit down for their meals. He also takes pride in the little things that make their day, like the filling the bird feeders so they can watch the birds, squirrels and wildlife.

Larson was recently voted the Employee of the Year by the GCHD staff that was announced at an All Staff Meeting earlier this month. He will receive eight hours of PTO, two twenty-five-dollar gift cards, and a plaque with his picture commemorating this award displayed at the hospital.

When he is not working you can find Larson on the river fishing. He is considered an expert fisherman and admits his favorite catch is bass, steelhead, and sturgeon. Larson willingly shares his vast knowledge and skillful tips of his beloved pastime. He always makes time for friends and enjoys sharing stories and pictures of his great fishing adventures.
