Kyson Fruh steps in to cover short-fall

POMEROY–Firefighter, EMT and Walla Walla Community College Fire Science student Kyson Fruh, has been working for the Garfield County Fire District (GCFD) full time since April 27, 2020 extending through the summer, covering a void in the department experiencing a short-fall in personnel.

While working at the GCFD as a Firefighter and EMT, his other duties include helping to keep the vehicles clean and stocked with supplies, completing incident reports and EMT calls, assisting with training sessions, and upkeep of the firehouse yard and building.

Fruh has one quarter of school remaining and anticipates to finish by this fall. Upon receipt of his certification, he looks forward to finding a full-time Firefighter, EMT position somewhere or perhaps with the Forest Service. He loves what he is doing at the GCFD, and because it is a small department, he says "it is like a family." But also, because it is a small department, he knows that working there full-time is most likely only temporary. He is considering working for the USFS after he finishes school.
