September 10, 2020

POMEROY–The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) in final discussions over overnight camping for the restructured Garfield County Fair plan as of their meeting on August 31.

The BOCC has yet to finalize the overnight camping plan for this year's "restructured" Garfield County Fair. A preliminary plan has been drawn up, but was not ready to present to the BOCC for approval. Commissioner Justin Dixon will submit it to Commissioners Wynne McCabe and Bob Johnson later that afternoon for review.

Sheriff Drew Hyer reported an incident accident while driving a Sheriff's Office vehicle, he had hit a parked boat and trailer at Pataha St. and Sixth St. He stated there was limited damage to the boat trailer, but more damage occurred to the Sheriff's Office vehicle at the bumper, fender and door. The incident was handled by the Sheriff's Office.

Hyer also reported he had ordered 15 sanitizing spray guns, for just under $15,000, and about 100 gallons of sanitizing fluid from a supplier in Walla Walla. He expects to receive the first six guns in late September to early October, but the remaining nine are on back order. The remainder of the order will arrive in late October to early November. The Garfield County Transportation Authority has requested the use of one of the sanitizing guns. They will have to purchase it from the County, when one becomes available.

Garfield County Public Works Director, Grant Morgan, requested approval from the BOCC for the final prospectus on two State grant projects. One project is the Lower Deadman Project, mile post 0 to 1.9; and the second is the Gould City-Mayview Project, for improvements to the intersection and bridge, and from mile posts 9.42 to 11.12. Both projects will include widening and guard rail improvement, at an estimated cost of $1.45 million. The BOCC voted to approve the final prospectus on both projects.

The Planning Commission will meet at the Garfield County Public Works office on September 1 at 3 p.m., to interview two candidates who have applied for the open Planning Board position.

The next meeting of the Garfield County BOCC will be Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 9 a.m., due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7.
