HOSPITAL UPDATE

Quick COVID tests available at GCHD

November 12, 2020

The Garfield County Hospital District (GCHD) is spreading the word on what is happening with COVID-19 testing. The GCHD now has the capability to do 15-minute rapid tests. There are specific guidelines as to who can receive these tests as follows: the person must have active symptoms which have started in the last seven days. If someone does not meet that criteria, they can still have a test, but it will be sent to a lab in Spokane which has a general turn-around of 24-hours.

Due to the volume of COVID-19 testing being performed and the demand placed on lab staff, testing will occur Monday–Friday from 9-11 a.m. and 1:30-4 p.m. Because of specific requirements, outpatient testing will not be done outside business hours. Those requiring a test during the evening hours or on the weekend must have it done as an ER visit.

If someone with COVID symptoms call for an appointment, they will most likely be referred to the hospital for testing prior to their appointment. If the test returns positive, the patient can do a zoom appointment with the Clinic or be seen in person in the ER.

Every insurance company covers COVID-19 testing and those without insurance, State funding is available to them.

For more information contact the GCHD and ask for Jayd Keener or Mat Slaybaugh.
