Letters to the Editor

November 19, 2020

To the editor,

I hear Republicans call for patience with the President. Yes, Democrats would like to move past the vitriol of the last four years as we share holidays with Republican loved ones.

I am a Democrat. I don’t have two heads or growths on my feet, other than bunions. I love my family, just like Republicans.

I am calling the East Washingtonian out on the last couple of cartoons as untrue and inflammatory.

On November 5, the cartoon inferred Joe Biden is 100% on board with the Green New Deal and will impose it on all states. He is actually to the right of progressive Democrats. Biden is interested in combatting climate change, putting Americans to work using American products. And, I am very offended by the use of the Communist symbol in the cartoon. Biden communist? Pile of bovine fecal matter.

On November 11 cartoon, seriously, Commander in Thief? I think it would serve every citizen to observe the vote counting as I did with a Republican sitting across the table from me. This is happening all over our country. The President’s attorneys are trotting around the country with frivolous lawsuits, rejected by judge after judge. A fundraising bonanza. And if Democrats were thieving, we would have sent Mitch McConnell packing. Pot, Kettle, Black.

We ask the Publisher of our local paper to choose cartoons that don’t villainize Democrats. One of the signatories of this letter said, “I have been a subscriber since the 70s and it breaks my heart to see such divisive content in our little local paper.”

We support our community, do our best to get along with our Republican neighbors and family. Some of us still support this paper, even as the current minority party, though it has not always been so and may not always be.
