Med-Project launches statewide drug collection and disposal

November 26, 2020

WASHINGTON STATE–The Medication Education and Disposal Project (MED-Project) launched a statewide program to offer local residents free services to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused medicine safely and conveniently.

MED-Project provides Washington State residents convenient, year-round medicine drop-off locations, such as pharmacies, medical facilities, and law enforcement offices. In addition to its existing operational programs in several counties, MED-Project has activated approximately 150 additional drop-off sites for Washington State residents.

Residents who prefer mailing back unwanted medicine for disposal can request free, pre-paid, pre-authorized packages by visiting med-project.org; calling (844) MED-PROJECT; or visiting one of several MED-Project designated mail-back distribution locations, such as participating retail pharmacies.

MED-Project is also launching a public awareness campaign to notify residents about the program to safely dispose of their unwanted medicine. A mobile-friendly website provides drop-off location information and instructions, as well as downloadable educational materials. Public service announcements will appear on digital, print, and social media outlets statewide.

For more information about the MED-Project drug take-back program and available services in Washington State, including accepted types of medication, please contact MED-Project at (844) MED-PROJECT/(844) 633-7765, or visit med-project.org.
