December 3, 2020

WALLA WALLA–Fourteen Pomeroy students are recipients of the Harold and Helen Shepherd 2020-21 Scholarship. The Walla Walla Community College Foundation expressed through the generosity of Harold and Helen Shepherd, these students: Julie Alicea; Gustavo Alvarez-Tornez; Nicole Anderson; Tanner Bremer; Marcella Ebeck; Jim Englander; Heidi Heytvelt; Kaitlin Holebrook; Kathryn Holmes; Phoenix Kinsall; Sean Kinsall; Brenna Southwick; Jaden Steele; and Gabrielle Vasquez, will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams of education at Walla Walla Community College this fall.

The Harold and Helen Shepherd Scholarship Fund assists students from Garfield and surrounding counties to access higher education. The scholarship honors the lives of Pomeroy wheat ranchers Harold and Helen Shepherd who were active civic leaders in Garfield County. Because of the generosity of the Shepherds and stewardship of trustees Gary Houser and Jim Hayner, the Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation has provided more than $1.06 million in student and program support for WWCC since 2001. Their continuing support means each of these 2020-2021 Shepherd Scholarship recipients will receive a $1,500.00 scholarship toward their studies.

The WWCC Foundation exists to eliminate financial barriers to students’ educational dreams. We raise, manage and grant financial support in order to assure student access, equity and educational excellence at Walla Walla Community College. Thanks to the generous spirit our community, the WWCC Foundation is pleased to award more than $650,000.00 in student scholarship support through more than 500 individual scholarships for 2020–21.
