December Student of the Month Emma Severs, left, finds opportunity where she can get it during a tough year if quarantines, shutdowns, distancing and just a plain abnormal time. This month's sponsor is LCCU who is represented by Bank Manager Ashely Dixon, right.

POMEROY–December "Student of the Month" Emma Severs, nominated by Jessica Wolf, has lived through a year without sports, due to COVID-19, yet has spurred interested and development in sports in other ways. In other words, she has learned how to take the lemons you are given and turn them in to tasty lemonade.

Pride This year Emma is showing pride during a frustrating Senior Year. This year Emma has not been able to participate in her sports activities due to COVID-19. Instead of being, outwardly upset, she has shown pride by helping to build future Pirates. She is volunteering, her time, to help Coach the Mighty Pirates Little Girls Team after school.

Independence Emma shows Independence running the Mighty Pirate Practice until Coach Wolf is able to meet her team. She is running drills, and helping with plays. In the past, Emma has helped run our Youth Drills for Skills Program.

Respect She shows respect both inside and outside of the classroom. She is polite to her peers. She is a natural leader who leads and helps guide others by mentoring and developing skill so as to boost her little apprentices' ability and confidence. She shows respect while helping to Coach and encourage the next generation.

Attitude Emma has a great attitude and so willing to help. When she realized she would not be doing sports this fall and potentially this winter. She wanted to make a difference. She could have chosen to be upset but instead, she offered her time to help.

Trustworthy She is very trustworthy; 16 parents are trusting her with their little athletes' afterschool. "I know she will do a good job running practice until I can get there," said Jessica Wolf. "You can trust Emma inside and outside of school to do anything correct and well. If she doesn't do it right the first time, she will work hard to fix what she needs to."

Effort Striving is the definition of what Emma does every day; she is always working her. She is encouraging others to put forth a 100% effort. She is a good role model and leader.

Show Kindness While coaching younger Athletes they are at many different levels of development. I have had the pleasure of watching Emma work with many development levels. She is encouraging and never belittling. Explaining this so everyone can understand. She does this with her peers in the classroom too.
