Vendeland finishes in top 10 at St. John meet

ST. JOHN–Pirate cross country runner Nick Vendeland finished in the top ten at the three-way meet here March 6.

The season wrapped yesterday, March 10, with the championship meet held in Pomeroy. Results will be published next week.

Vendeland, a Pomeroy senior, finished the 3.1-mile course in 22:18 for a tenth-place finish and a contribution to the Pirates' third-place boys' team finish with 62 points, behind Touchet with 51 and SJEL with 21.

Four of Vendeland's Pirate teammates followed in fifteenth through eighteenth places. Cash Copher finished five spots behind Vendeland with a time of 24:27, with Brady Bott hot on his heels at 24:29. Samuel Lamb crossed the finish line at 25:49 with Trevin Walton breathing down his neck with a time of 25:50. Jayden Slusser finished in 22nd place in 31:12.

Pirate girls Maya Kowatsch and Nayley Larios ran in the girls' 3.1-mile contest. Kowatsch finished in 12th place with a time of 37:20. Larios was a couple of strides behind Kowatsch, finishing in 13th place with a time of 37:22.
