Slaybaugh breaks school pole vault record

Pirate pole vaulter Colton Slaybaugh, a P.H.S. junior, set a new personal best and Pomeroy school record by going over 14 feet by one-half of an inch. Slaybaugh beat a record set in 2018 by Tanner Bremer by a half an inch.

POMEROY––Numerous Pirate track and field athletes set personal bests, but Colton Slaybaugh topped them all by setting a new school record in the Pole Vault at 14-0.5-a half inch higher than Tanner Bremer's previous school record set in 2018. Slaybaugh leads the state in the event.

A dozen school competed in Dist. 9 1B league meet number four here April 21, with the Pirate boys finishing third with 61 points and the girls in sixth place with 50.5. Asotin won the boys with 153.5 and Valley Christian was the top girls team with 142.

Pirate Troy Steele was first in shot with a 37-0 throw. Javelin thrower Raelin Borley was first with an 88-7.5 effort, and Katie Boyer pole vaulted 7-3 for first and a PR.

Other personal best times or marks this meet included: Tyler Bagby in pole vault (9'6"), Braedon Fruh in pole vault (11'6"), Kyler Denny in the 200 (27.82), Josh Kepner in the 100 (13.18) and long jump (13'9.5"), David Tejero in shot put (27'7"), Nicholas Vendeland in the 100 (12.34) and 200 (25.54), Trevin Walton in the 100 (13.54), Katie Boyer in the long jump (12'7.5"), Haliee Brewer in high jump (4'6"), Katie Cook in high jump (4'), Jadence Gingerich in shot put (25'9.75"), and Ashlee Pemberton in the 100 (15.58), and long jump (11').

Athletes who are top 10 in state as of April 26 are:

Logan Ledgerwood- 3rd in pole vault (12'); Braeden Fruh- tied for 4th in pole vault (11"); Tyler Slaybaugh- tied for 8th in pole vault (9'); Tyler Bagby- tied for 8th in pole vault (9'); Troy Steele- 6th in shot put (40'2") and 10th in javelin (128'4"); Nicholas Vendeland- tied for 10th in the 200 (25.54); Raelin Borley- 8th in shot put (31'3.5") and 8th in javelin (91'8"); Ashlee Pemberton- 10th javelin (89'6"); Haliee Brewer- tied for 7th in high jump (4'6") and tied for 9th in pole vault (6'); Katie Boyer- 3rd in pole vault (7'3").

The Boy's 4x100 Relay, Braedon Fruh, Nicholas Vendeland, Tyler Slaybaugh, Colton Slaybaugh, is ranked first in state with a 47.89.
