GCFD considering new fire engine

June 17, 2021

POMEROY–Garfield County Fire District No. 1 (GCFD) Chief James Cleveland introduced a possible replacement for fire engine 11 at the recent meeting on June 8.

The rig under consideration is a 2003 Detroit 500 horsepower engine, with 1,000-gallon water tank, and 50,000 miles. The asking price is $45,000. Chief Cleveland recommended a third-party inspection of the engine before considering it for purchase, as well as contacting prior owners in Colorado for the truck’s history. “It’s not something that we have to do,” Chief Cleveland said. “But I think it would be smart to do.” The commissioners decided to postpone any decision until more information is available. Funding for this purchase was not discussed.

Flag placing for Memorial Day was announced to be a success, with several volunteers showing up to help. The placing took an hour and a half.

GCFD commissioners ended the meeting with an executive session. No action was announced.
