Pomeroy junior reaches High School Rodeo nationals in steer wrestling

June 24, 2021

Pomeroy High School junior Braedyn White wrestles a steer in Washington State High School Rodeo competition in Okanogan last month. White competed in the state finals and won first place, which gave him enough points to qualify for nationals in Nebraska next month.

OKANOGAN–From the wrestling mat to the rodeo arena, if it can be wrestled, Braedyn White will wrestle it.

Braedyn White proudly accepted the championship belt buckle at the High School Rodeo state finals in May.

White recently finished second in the regional 1B wrestling competition (see story this page) and at the Washington State High School Rodeo Association (WSHSRA) State Finals recently, White took the top prize in steer wrestling and earned a berth in the national high school rodeo competition later this summer.

The top four finalists in each rodeo event, based on accumulated scoring from the nine fall and spring rodeo events, have a berth at nationals, White, the son of Fred and Kelly White of Dayton. He will be in competition with around 200-four from each of the fifty states.

"I'm a little nervous but I'm looking forward to it," White said.

Nationals will be held July 18-24 in Lincoln, Neb.

White won the steer wrestling average at the state meet, held May 28-31 in Okanogan, and those points brought his overall standing to third place in state scoring.
