Lovlett Corral Fire Update

PENDLETON, Ore.–Firefighters continued securing containment lines on the Lovlett Corral Fire last Friday, July 3, which is located approximately 10 miles northwest of Monument, Oregon on the Heppner Ranger District. The Lovlett Corral Fire is approximately 137 acres and is now 65% contained.

Public Use Restrictions increase to Phase B on the Umatilla National Forest

PENDLETON, Ore.–Umatilla National Forest officials has implemented Phase B Public Use Restrictions as of Thursday, July 1, 2021, due to high fire danger, the potential for human-caused fires, and concern for public safety. The increased restrictions pertain to the use of campfires, smoking, chainsaws, internal combustion engines, and generators.

First Family Night at the Pool planned

POMEROY–Quality Behavioral Health Pomeroy Partners tentatively plan the first Family Night at the Pool for Thursday, July 22 after the swim meet and farmer’s market. There will be activities and food.


Initial and continued claims for regular benefits decreased

OLYMPIA–There were 7,505 initial regular unemployment claims (down 0.5 percent from the prior week) and 368,956 total claims for all unemployment benefit categories (down 1.6 percent from the prior week) filed by Washingtonians, according to the Employment Security Department (ESD) during the week of June 20–June 26.

USDA Announces Efforts to Promote Transparency in Product of the USA Labeling

WASHINGTON D.C.–Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack issued a statement following the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) vote to strengthen its enforcement of the Made in USA standard:

“Today, the Federal Trade Commission took important steps to enhance its ability to enforce the Made in USA standard. I congratulate the FTC on strengthening this important protection for American consumers. USDA will complement the FTC’s efforts with our own initiative on labeling for products regulated by FSIS, an area of consumer labeling where USDA has a long tradition of protecting consumers from false and misleading labels.
